Auto Care Car

Mercedes Parts

Please becareful of choosing the replacement parts, so many fake aftermarket part. Some of the best products are Lemforder, Febi, etc. They were pirated with all identical looks, the packaging, the part number, the colour. But the fake product usually have different LOGO, for example the Lemforder logo is owl bird inside triangle, the fake product have some different logo, the logo detail and the triangle mark.
If you choose cheaper parts such as Europart, GermanParts, Porto, etc be sure to check the part first before make a decision...

Even there is a product that has the same packaging as the OEM part...
For the OEM part you must be cautious also, if you dont check the part number with EPC. Some of the OEM products are intended for fleet car or lower grade, they has different drivability.

Be wise to choosing spare part for your mercedes...

Spark Plug

So many spark plug choices in the market, are they as good as the ads said ? My answer is, Yes !
However they are must be properly used and spec's matched to manufacture recommendation. You might read the Spark Plug in Wikipedia website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spark_plug

I dont want to talk about how to read the condition of your vehicle's spark plugs because probably its a common thing, but is it necessary to replace oem grade spark plug with aftermarket highly design, precisely manufactured built with the best material (such as iridium, gold, etc...)

Using the best aftermarket spark plug ? why not ?... but you must know what you will achieve with spark plug of your choice.
For example, plug with splited head wont have splited sparks like the pictures the printed on the box, why ? because electric only looking for less resitance path.
Another example, exotic material for spark plug's head, they claimed for bigger spark, yes it would, but it wont go like you got independent high discharge ignition system... it might better from the oem product as far as it got better material and better longevity.
As long as your ignition system is an OEM product you will not get bigger spark (i mean the "big" big).
Be smart for your choices, another product with HALO type head claimed they will produce the best overall achivement, hmmmm nope, i dont think so, that thick circle electrode head above the center electrode will restrict the combustion process both before ignition and after, air and gas will have difficulty passing into gap between catode and anode (side and center electrode).

Consult with your trusted workshop or dealership for the best choices for your needs. If you insist for using aftermarket, try to talk to private workshop.

Mercedes Benz Instrumen Cluster Bulb replacement

Driving at night might be pain in the butt when you look down to instrumen and cant see what time is it because the LCD's backlight bulb were dead or having trouble checking how much gas left because the background bulb were dead.

Dealership workshop has special tool to pull out the instrument cluster, T shaped puller with hook end matched the edged wall at the side of instrument cluster. This special tool might be available to buy in certain supplier. How to use this tool ? You just have to slip it in right at the side of instrumen cluster, between instrumen and dashboard, turn it 90degree and pull it slowly till the hook end catch the instrument wall (with the edged wall), do it with left and right side at the same time. Pull it constantly while wiggling left and right, the instrumen will came out. BUT.... Oooopppsss the tool/hook slipped off and i got crack on the instrument cluster's casing....darn it.... Yup, this might happen if you dont know exactly where the edged wall at, or the instrument and dashboard is so tight. Dont worry and dont take any risk, you dont have to buy the tool to pull out the instrument, You just need a screwdriver with philip end. Open the underneath dashboard covering, driver side, until came off, you might find couple of bolts behind parking brake release handle and hood opener handle, when the bottom cover is off you have some space to push out instrument cluster out from dashboard from behind it. You also need a partner to help you pull out the instrument from driver seat side, if it so tight and heavy you can use steel pipe or something to help you push out the instrument... GOOD LUCK...

Automatic Transmission

Automatic Transmission is one of the best in automotive technology, the development pushed to be better and efficient.
Even manual tranny also had automatic mode which gives the driver pleasure and experiencing a different driving style and character. The automatic tranny fluid needs to be replaced regularly, because the fluid not only lubricate all the moving parts inside but also as a "blood", its not gonna work if the fluid not in proper condition such as insufficent amount or dirty or even wrong type of fluid filled in.

The recommended driving distance for replacing the fluid is 60.000KM but it would be better if done sooner (40.000KM) and followed by replacing the filter and oil pan gasket. New automatic tranny usually dont have oil/fluid dip stick, so you must have the right tools/equipment to check the oil/fluid level or let the dealership workshop do the job.

Driving with automatic transmission is as easy as "123" put the lever in a right place and thats it... You dont have to worry about engine revving and everything, you also can change different modes such as Standard, Economy, Sport, Manual, Close Ratio, Winter, etc (depends on the model) in a push of a button.

But it must be use in gentle and wise, driving in >80km/h than slam it to lower gear will brake or worn out the tranny, it called Automatic Transmission so let it do the job automatically.

Engine Oil Flush

Flushing your engine oil is not a must but would be better if you do. Lots of choices engine flush additive products but the safer way is using cheaper oil. Yes, use cheaper engine oil, run the engine for couple of minute then replace with your choice of engine oil within the engine spec, dont forget to replace the oil filter. The oil filter must be replaced each oil change, overtimed use of paper type oil filter will kinked and shattered, the filtering process will fail.

Mercedes Benz with ASSYST and ASSYST Plus using the engine load, oil quality sensor, distance, time and multiplier factor (depend on which country) to calculate when the next service due. This technology actualy will save some money as compared to distance related because this system will calculate much more precisely according how you drive your car.

*Use only listed engine oil in MB-Sheet according to the engine specification and Service Manual Book
